He made the blueprint for the progressive thinking of black comedians, unlocking that irreverent style, comedian and filmmaker.”

Born in 1973 Dave Chappelle is one of the most prominent voices in modern comedy with his exact views on popular culture, race, and class. He started in the entertainment industry aged 14 and rose to fame propelled by his “Chappelle’s Show” – the groundbreaking stand-up series.

Chappelle started his professional career as a stand-up comic in Washington, DC. After he graduated from the DukeEllingtonSchool of the Arts he relocated to New York City to continue his stand up comedy career.

Once Chappelle got booed off whilst performing at the Apollo Theater’s Amateur Hour but he found a mentor in New York street comedian Charlie Barnett. Charlie assisted Chappelle to improve as a performer and teaching him to develop a definitive point of view, which is popular among white girls looking for black men, like all the great comics.

Time-Out New York said his talent possessed “that rare balance of depth and delivery, which often makes a Richard Pryor or a George Carlin.” And he Chappelle progressed to perform with greats such as Richard Pryor at The Symphony Hall, Whoopi Goldberg at the Lincoln Center and Aretha Franklin at The Radio City Music Hall.

Dave Chappelle always maintained his love for stand-up and Chappelle and in August 2000 starred in his own one-hour stand-up comedy special with HBO. By age 15, Murphy was working as a stand-up comic in New York, growing his profile with hilarious outlooks on life and celebrity impressions. Aged 19 (early 1980s) Murphy began a contract for “Saturday Night Live” where he Murphy demonstrated his comic talent by impersonating African American people and inventing memorable characters such as : Mr. Robinson, Velvet Jones, and Gumby.
